Nightnoise war eine Jazz-Band zunächst aus den USA, später aus Irland. Die Band spielte in den Genres Jazz, Irish Folk und Kammermusik.

Bandgeschichte

Die irische Folkband The Bothy Band löste sich im Jahr 1979 auf. Hier war der irische Gitarrist Mícheál Ó Domhnaill aktiv. Nightnoise begann 1984 als Duo bestehend aus Mícheál Ó Domhnaill und dem US-amerikanischen Violonisten Billy Oskay, kurz nachdem Ó Domhnaill nach Portland, Oregon gezogen war. Aus deren Demotape wurde das erste Musikalbum, nachdem die Clavinetistin Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill und der Flötist Brian Dunning zur Band hinzugekommen sind. Mícheál und seine Schwester Tríona spielten bereits gemeinsam in den Bands Skara Brae, The Bothy Band und Relativity zusammen. Nach der Veröffentlichung des vierten Albums hat Billy Oskay die Band verlassen und wurde 1990 zunächst durch Johnny Cunningham ersetzt. Johnny Cunningham verliess die Band 1997 wieder und wurde durch John Fitzpatrick ersetzt.[1]

Ende der 1990er zog die Band nach Irland um. Hier waren sie wöchentlich in der TV-Show "Brid Live" des irischen TV-Senders RT1 zu sehen. Die Band begleitete den japanischen Singer-Songwriterin Mimori Yusa bei ihrem Album "Mimori Yusa Meets Irish Superstars".[1] Ende 2003 löste sich die Band Nightnoise auf.[2] Mícheál Ó Domhnaill verstarb am 7. Juli 2006. Das Label Windham Hill Records erinnerte 2006 mit der Veröffentlichung der Kompilation "Pure" am 20. Oktober 2006 an die Band.[1]
