Ella Rothwell stammt aus Bristol im Südwesten Englands, später zog sie nach London.[4] Mit 12 Jahren schrieb sie ihren ersten Song.[1] Ella Rothwell studierte am Leeds College of Music. Wenige Tage nach dem Livefinale von Undiscovered: Leeds in der Oporto Bar in Call Lane in Leeds unterzeichnete Ella Rothwell 2013 bei Big On Road Records.[5] 2014 veröffentlichte sie ihre Debüt-EP "Mouthful Of Words" bei Crockford Records. 2015 war Rothwell Support für die US-amerikanische Contemporary-R&B-Sängerin Macy Gray bei ihrer Tour durch das Vereinigte Königreich.[6][7] Es folgten Auftritte von Rothwell bei Festivals, unter anderem im Juli 2015 beim Barn On The Farm Festival in Gloucester.[8] Ihre erste Headline-Show in The Islington in London war ausverkauft.
